Sompura Mahavihara

                                                             Somapura Mahavihara

Somapura Mahavihara : In Paharpur, Badalgachhi Upazila, Naogaon District, Bangladesh (25°1'51.83"N, 88°58'37.15"E) is amongst the top known Buddhist viharas in the Indian Subcontinent plus is one of the most vital archeological sites in the state. It was selected a UNESCO earth legacy Site in 1985.
A numeral of monasteries grows up through the Pāla epoch in early Bengal and Magadha. According to Tibetan sources,  five great Mahaviharas stood out Vikramashila, the head of state college of the era; Nalanda, past its chief but still illustrious; Somapura Mahavihara; Odantapurā; and Jaggadala. The monasteries fashioned a set-up; "all of them be under position regulation" and here existed "a scheme of co-ordination between them ... it seems starting the verification that the unusual seats of Buddhist wisdom that functioned in eastern India under the Pāla be regard collectively as forming a system, an interlinked group of institution," and it was general for great scholar to move without intricacy from site to site amongst them.
